Just a reminder to RSVP in this form by February 21st to confirm your attendance to the ‘Picture a Scientist’ Screening & Discussion at the Benson Earth Sciences Building Auditorium (Benson 180) on February 24th, 2022 at 5PM if you are interested in attending. We will provide free non-alcoholic beverages (soda, water, etc.) and snacks (popcorn, candies, etc.) prior to the start of the screening.
FILM SYNOPSIS: “PICTURE A SCIENTIST chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries – including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists – who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.”
After the film ends, we will open the floor for approximately 1 hour of graduate/undergraduate student-led discussion (in smaller groups/clusters) of the film and how what was portrayed relates to our own community. We will confirm your spot in the screening in an email after you sign up for the event. We will also provide you with discussion questions to consider during the screening. You must show your confirmation email upon entry to the event.
If you have any issues with the RSVP or additional questions about the event please contact Stephanie Plaza-Torres (stephanie.plazatorres@colorado.edu) or Ciara Asamoto (ciara.asamoto@colorado.edu) for assistance.
