Welcome to the 2015 HOBITSS ocean bottom seismology and geodesy expedition! HOBITSS stands for Hikurangi Ocean Bottom Investigation of Tremor and Slow Slip. It is a US National Science funded project to study earthquake processes and structure of the Hikurangi subduction zone offshore the North Island of New Zealand. We will set sail from Napier, New Zealand, on June 20, 2015, and will spend 11 days working around the clock to retrieve 35 ocean bottom seismometers and seafloor pressure gauges that we deployed by ship one year ago. Glad to have you checking in on our adventure!
