Today we were happy to lead students from Flaxmere College, Hastings Girls High, Karamu High, Napier Intermediate, and Napier Girls High School on a tour of the Research Vessel (R/V) Roger Revelle. Our tour guides included scientists from the oncoming HOBITSS earthquake and slow slip cruise team as well as scientists Rob Harris and Stuart Henrys who had just returned from a month-long voyage on the STINGS heat flow and seismic imaging project. The students were able to see the science labs, winch room, bridge, on-board hospital, galley, and living and recreation facilities of the Revelle. The oversized binoculars in the bridge and the biscuits in the galley were popular with the students, as well as learning about the science performed in New Zealand waters.
