In the next four months, July through October 2014, four CIRES scientists will work aboard the Swedish icebreaker Oden, as part of an international team focused on better understanding climate in the Arctic. The researchers — Matt Shupe, Paul Johnston, Ola Persson and Dan Wolfe — all work in NOAA's Earth System Research Laboratory. They hope to better understand how sea ice affects the exchanges of energy and material between the ocean and the atmosphere, including effects on clouds. The team expects to cruise through areas with thick ice, and areas of open water, in a remote and fascinating part of the world. More info...
