As the last week arrives, I am sure the rest of the team feels a flurry of emotions and thoughts as I do. Some are still scrambling to do last minute preparations with the equipment as there will be no second chances for shipments. The rush of excitement, the curiosity of meeting new team members that we will be spending a month in the closest of quarters with and trusting our very lives with. Our mortality is once again at the forefront as we go through safety protocols and recheck our supplies in our minds to ensure everything will keep us warm and safe.
We begin preparing for the hours of flights…and waiting, the unique culture of Kangerlussuaq, and seeing the friends we have made there, again. The experiences of being on the ice sheet, feeling as though on a distant planet with interesting and unpredictable weather patterns that rip across the surface.
We prepare our bodies for long days of work and the amazing days of travel on the sparkling surface of snow dunes.
The incredible journey is about to begin. We know what dangers we face and the importance of the science we gather for the world.
To a safe and glorious journey…A Prost.
You guys will be in my thoughts while you’re out there. I look forward to more fantastic photos!
