Dye -2

After a day of flight delays to the Ice Sheet, I was notified by team lead Mike MacFerrin via satellite communication, that the crew landed safely earlier today at Camp Raven, also known as Dye-2, albeit with a minor occurrence.

At one point, the flight crew noticed a gasoline smell inside the aircraft, so as a safety procedure, they instructed everyone to wear their emergency oxygen masks for the remainder of the flight –  (in the case of the C-130, they are actually bags that you place over your head) for the remaining 15 minutes of the flight.

They have camp set up and are planning to traverse by snowmobile to KAN-U tomorrow. You can follow the team’s progress during their traverse via the “bread crumb” tracker site here.
