Effective January 1, 2021, employees will be allowed to utilize their personal sick leave for purposes of COVID-related self-isolation due to exposure, illness, caretaking of a family member with COVID, or to care for a child whose childcare facility or school is closed due to the public health emergency. If an employee in need does not have 80 hours of sick leave available for use, CIRES will supplement their sick leave up to 80 hours. The 80 hours of emergency sick leave is a one-time allotment, and cannot be granted more than once to the same employee for different reasons. Once any supplemental sick leave is exhausted, vacation or unpaid leave can used with approval from the supervisor.
This new guidance is a result of the State of Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act. Please visit the HR COVID site for more information, including payroll codes and full definitions.
