The Mobile Science Facility, as the name suggests, has been designed to be mobile. We won’t be driving all over the ice sheet because our instruments are too delicate for that, but the mobility will help to keep the facility from getting buried in snow. Every 6-12 months, we’ll secure our instruments, hook up the D6 and drag the facility to a new pad that has been prepared. This is one of the approaches used at Summit for dealing with the ever growing surface. The other is jack-able buildings that can be cranked up a little higher every couple of years.
