Climate change is a contemporary hot topic issue, mostly because people that deny it consider it to be an economic burden to put funding into environmental security and research. But for the people who pay attention to the FACTS, it is a cause of concern about all the variables that come with that change, and that doesn’t always mean drought. Climate change could mean flooding, high waters, longer wet seasons, and overall increase in variability.
That is why this facet of research is a necessity. We need to be able to predict and adapt to changes that our environment imposes on us because there are no guarantees.
Just heard an interesting piece about economists trying to model effects of climate change on US economy. Most interesting is the effects on specific geographies: http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/06/29/534896130/mapping-the-potential-economic-effects-of-climate-change
