i spent the first few days of this week deep in the massive temperature dataset i’m working with, establishing a standardized way of comparing the variance or fluctuations at each site. Ashley and i went up to Niwot Ridge on Thursday, which was really incredible. There’s still a ton of snow, and several of the potential pika sites are still packed under. We were able to visit one of the “reliable” sites that Dr. Ray uses, and Ashley pointed out what to look for when doing a pika occupancy survey. Even though i’ve been reading LOTS of articles, it was still really helpful to see the scat and haypiles in person. No pika yet 🙁
