The first week of the RECCS program has been one of the best educational experiences I have had so far. I am very excited and thankful for the opportunity to participate in this program. We have had the opportunity to listen and learn from experts in a variety of fields as well as a chance to develop friendships within our cohort. There is nothing as motivating as finding people with similar interests and hobbies! Although our majors, degrees, and research topics often differed, a few things we all had in common were concern for the environment, enthusiasm for the outdoors, and an interest in science. I look forward to exchanging ideas, opinions, and good times with my peers and mentors throughout the summer!

We visited a few sites where wildfires swept through and demolished the trees and surrounding plants. It was neat to visit these sites and see the new growth prosper years after the fire.
It’s so great that you took advantage of being up at the MRS and being able to go on your very early morning hike with some of your new friends. Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos of the sunrise.
