Research Experience for Community College Students in Critical Zone Science

Good morning RECCS interns and staff,

This week has already started out with fun and excitement. Our task is to complete the results and discussion sections. When I first started writing, I was breezing through the pages. When my mentor read my paper of the first edits, I don’t think I have ever seen so many edits in my life! I did not think that the discussions section would be so difficult. I have been working on this section for almost a week and I still feel like it is not the best. This internship is flying by extremely fast and school is slowly arriving. I am super sad because I am not excited to start school work again. I can’t wait to make more friends and play golf. College is awesome! I didn’t think that I would ever say that, but it is the truth.

This program has helped me make new friends and has really opened my eyes to many more opportunities that are out in the world. When I first started at Otero Junior College, I didn’t ever think that community college students would be able to receive opportunities quite like the one we have now. I am truly grateful for my new friends that I have made within the last month and a half. I always felt below the students who attend universities until I got accepted into the CIRES RECCS Program. This program made me feel like I could so something with my degree even when starting at a community college. I believe that anything is possible and hard work does pay off. Thank you everyone for your support and for giving me such an opportunity!
