Dear CIRES Colleagues,
I hope today’s note finds you all healthy and figuring out how to work—and more importantly live—productively. If you are struggling in any way, please reach out to your friends and colleagues and check out the growing number of resources CU Boulder has made available: https://www.colorado.edu/hr/. Of note: New self-care resources.
I’m writing today primarily to highlight several upcoming opportunities for you to get answers to questions many of us have been wrestling with. Perhaps most importantly, we have updated information from our CU Boulder colleagues on how to account for leave in April:Put next Thursday, April 16, 11 a.m. on your calendar now. That’s when you can tune in with CIRES’ and CU Boulder’s HR experts to learn about three new categories of COVID-19-related leave that some of you may be able to use.
There are two other events below, too: The next in my series of every-other-week Town Halls, and another Coffee Hour with members of my administrative leadership team. Also, please know that we are aware that DOC and NOAA are evaluating whether Zoom is appropriate for government use. After next week’s meetings, we may switch to another tool, eg, Google Hangouts, at least for NOAA-based meetings. Meanwhile, all three events will be recorded and posted on CIRES Administration News.
I’m looking forward to connecting with you, virtually, again soon.
Regards,
Waleed Abdalati
CIRES Director
CIRES Director Directors’ Town Hall, Tuesday April 14
This will be another Town Hall session for All-CIRES (those of you based at DSRC and CU Boulder) and I’ll start off, as usual, with a few key updates. The Senior Management Team will be online with me, and we’ll leave most of the hour for Q&A. Please note I’ll continue to plan these on Tuesdays at 10 or 11 am, every two weeks (ie: April 28, May 12, if necessary).

COVID-19 Leave information session, Thursday April 16
Lisa Landis and Kenny Nelson from CU Boulder HR will discuss how CIRES researchers can tap into three new categories of leave: one recently announced by the state, the other two by the federal government. CIRES HR Director Angela Knight and her team will host the call. Broadly, these new categories of leave will allow people to take additional emergency sick leave, childcare-related leave, and administrative leave for those who cannot complete job duties remotely. You will learn what process to take (including permissions required) to apply for certain categories of leave.
