As of May 1, 2025, for proposals to DOE and this fall for NSF proposals, all Key Personnel listed on proposals are required to have completed Research Security Training. Below are the specifics:

  • All principal investigators and key/senior personnel submitting new proposals to DOE from May 1, 2025 onward (and NSF in the fall) are required to complete the research security training within 12 months before proposals can be submitted.
  • This requirement does not impact existing DOE grant awards.
  • Full details of the new DOE requirements are available on the Research Security Training webpage, on the Research & Innovation Office website.
  • The training can be accessed here and through the CU portal directly from the Percipio (SkillSoft) tab.
  • We have also been notified that NSF Research Security Training requirements will be enhanced starting this Fall. Stay tuned for additional information as soon as we have more NSF specifics. We expect other agencies will follow.

OTHER KEY POINTS:

  • The certification requirement occurs upon submission that *all* Key Personnel have completed the Research Security Training, thus proposals cannot be submitted until all Key Personnel have completed the training.
  • We are defining “Key Personnel” as any person who would be required to submit Biosketch and Current & Pending documentation with the proposal.
  • Subawardees/Collaborators will also be responsible for providing verification that their Key Personnel have completed Research Security Training. The proposal cannot be submitted until all verifications of training completion have been received.

Examples of acceptable forms of verification:

  1. Statement attesting to completion of training for all Sub/Collaborator Key Personnel
  2. System generated Certificates of Completion
  3. Screenshot verifying completion
