There are three competitions to support the community-based and comprehensive coupled modeling system, the Unified Forecast System (UFS) to provide more accurate forecast guidance through operational numerical weather prediction applications. 1) Next Generation Global Predication System (NGGPS); 2) Weeks 3-4/SWS Program; and 3) Hurriance Forecast Improvement Program (HFIP).
LOI’s are encouraged, but not required, due 12/6/21; by 3:00 MST. Full applications are due 2/7/22 at 3:00 MST. Collaboration with PIs at different institutes is allowed, but there must be a single application from a lead university with sub-awards to any participants from other institutions. Federal government employees and federal contractors are not allowed to be listed as PIs or receive funding, although collaboration with NOAA within the project is encouraged.
