We woke up this morning to completely overcast skies. At the start of this trip we of course an
Pondering the overcast skies….
ticipated there would be weather-related cancellations, but today’s sky cover was disappointing because it was the day the OCO-2 satellite was set to target observations over SGP ARM. We checked numerous weather forecasting resources to see what would be happening around the noon launch time, and it looked like it miiiiiight clear up enough by then. So we drove the 45 minutes to the lab and Bianca prepped the AirCores while Jack and Sonja loaded the launch and tracking equipment into the vehicle. Still overcast. Forecast still iffy. So we drove the two chase vehicles another 45 minutes out to today’s launch area. Still overcast. We texted Liz and Harrison back at the TCCON. Also overcast. Sigh.
After standing around for half an hour or so, we finally gave up and headed back to the lab, unloaded our equipment and went back to town. Harrumph.
We did stop in at Boomer’s Tire Service to have a few-day-old screw removed from our tire and get it patched!
The Rusty Barrel Supper Club!
And for dinner we went on our ritual trip to The Rusty Barrel Supper Club for steaks and baked potatoes with potato-sized globs of butter on them. So you can’t say we didn’t accomplish anything today!
