The first week of the RECCS program has been one of the best educational experiences I have had so far. I am very excited and thankful for the opportunity to participate in this program. We have had the opportunity to listen and learn from experts in a variety of fields as well as a chance to develop friendships within our cohort. There is nothing as motivating as finding people with similar interests and hobbies! Although our majors, degrees, and research topics often differed, a few things we all had in common were concern for the environment, enthusiasm for the outdoors, and an interest in science. I look forward to exchanging ideas, opinions, and good times with my peers and mentors throughout the summer!<\/p>\n

We went on a hike at 4:30 in the morning, my favorite time to get out in the mountains!!<\/p>\n

We visited a few sites where wildfires swept through and demolished the trees and surrounding plants. It was neat to visit these sites and see the new growth prosper years after the fire.<\/p>\n
