With this post is a collection of photos of some of these small animals that came up with the OBS&#8217;s. It is about 2 inches long. Its exoskeleton has sharp edges.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_159\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/lobster-zoom.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-159\" class=\"size-full wp-image-159\" title=\"lobster-zoom\" src=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/lobster-zoom.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-159\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">We found a lot of these little lobsters. This one is about half an inch long.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_160\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/polyp3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-160\" class=\"size-full wp-image-160\" title=\"polyp3\" src=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/polyp3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-160\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">many of these plant-like polyps hung off the edges of the OBS and especially on the flag mast. They aren&#039;t much to look lik out of water.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_161\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/polyp-zoom4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-161\" class=\"size-full wp-image-161\" title=\"polyp-zoom4\" src=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/polyp-zoom4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-161\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">in salt water the polyps look like little jellyfish with long tentacles. Some of them had what appeared to be pieces of krill in their tentacles. This is a very zoomed in photo - the polyp is about 2 millimeters long.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_162\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/fisheggs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-162\" class=\"size-full wp-image-162\" title=\"fisheggs\" src=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/fisheggs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-162\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">one of the first OBS&#039;s that we recovered had a large mass of fish eggs. You can see the little black eyes of the fish embroyos through the eggs. This reminded me of the beginning of the movie Finding Nemo.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_163\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/brittle-star-bottom-zoom.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-163\" class=\"size-full wp-image-163\" title=\"brittle-star-bottom-zoom\" src=\"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/quake-cruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2010\/02\/brittle-star-bottom-zoom.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-163\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">almost every OBS had one or two brittle stars on it.
