NATSAGDORJ. <em>(This is the building that is just north of Ikh Mongol, near the circus)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Air pollution in now widely recognized as an important risk factor for mortality and a wide range of illnesses including respiratory infections, lung cancer, chronic lung disease, and cardiovascular disease. The recent Global Burden of Disease Study ranked ambient particulate matter air pollution as the 9th leading risk factor for global disease burden, with a large portion of the public health impacts occurring in Asia due to the high pollution levels and large exposed populations.<\/p>\n<p>This presentation will begin with a general overview of air pollution&#8217;s health effects before turning to recent recent research in Ulaanbaatar &#8211; identified by the World Health Organization as the world&#8217;s second-most polluted city &#8211; including our work characterizing air pollution concentrations, variability, and public health impacts.
