Photo credit &#8211; Tasha Snow<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On Tuesday, April 18, the FirnCover team arrived safely in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It takes a lot of preparations for a 3 week traverse on the ice sheet. Training meetings abound. Knowing how to use the communications systems, operating\u00a0and maintaining snow machines properly and covering general safety on the ice sheet in the elements (temperatures can plummet\u00a0to -40\u00ba F) are critical\u00a0in ensuring a safe and successful field campaign. \u00a0 Not to mention packing all the\u00a0science equipment and \u00a0essential supplies needed\u00a0which include food, clothing, shelter, fuel, and the must have bits of entertainment for storm days like board games, cards, puzzles and the occasional adult beverage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The team should be on schedule to depart Monday, April 24 to the ice sheet.
