{"id":218,"date":"2015-05-12T11:36:15","date_gmt":"2015-05-12T17:36:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/firncover\/?p=218"},"modified":"2015-05-12T11:41:39","modified_gmt":"2015-05-12T17:41:39","slug":"covering-a-lot-of-ground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ciresblogs.colorado.edu\/firncover\/2015\/05\/12\/covering-a-lot-of-ground\/","title":{"rendered":"Covering a lot of Ground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although weather was windy and a &#8216;bit&#8217; chilly, about -15\u02daC (5\u02daF), it didn&#8217;t keep the scientists from completing another successful work day at the NASA-SE site yesterday. \u00a0Today&#8217;s goal is to drill holes in the ice for the installation of compaction instruments, weather permitting. \u00a0If all goes according to plan, the team will pack up and begin another traverse tomorrow to the Saddle site, located approximately 100km (65 miles) due southwest on snow mobile. According to Mike, the work is officially half-way done!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.williamcolgan.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">William (Liam) Colgan<\/a>, a colleague and researcher at Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), is very familiar with these traverses, as he was a member\u00a0of the <a href=\"http:\/\/act-13.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ACT-13 campaign<\/a>\u00a0among others.
