This latest posting comes out of the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research (CSTPR), which is one of the centers affiliated with CIRES. CSTPR and CU-Boulder partner with the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre (RCRCCC) to place graduate students in locations in eastern and southern Africa each summer. This summer, the grad student intern is Sierra Gladfelter, a Masters student in geography. She\u2019ll be in Zambia from June through August and will be writing several posts during her time there.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what Max Boykoff, CSTPR Director, said in an email about what she\u2019ll be doing this summer:<\/p>\n

In Zambia, Sierra will be supporting the monitoring and evaluation\u00a0component of the \u2018City Learning Lab processes\u2019 Zambia Red Cross\u00a0Society program. This includes supporting the facilitation and\u00a0documentation of the First Lusaka Learning Lab for the Future\u00a0Resilience for African Cities and Lands (FRACTAL) project, including\u00a0contribution to the development of a learning framework and\u00a0establishing a learning baseline, researching background materials and\u00a0preparing reading materials in collaboration with the FRACTAL team and\u00a0documenting learning during the Learning Lab interactions and\u00a0compiling a learning report. In addition, Sierra will support ongoing\u00a0field work activities of the Zambia Red Cross Society as well as\u00a0contribute to the sharing of concepts for the \u2018Forecast Based Finance\u2019\u00a0project, compiling existing materials on forecast based finance,\u00a0developing a participatory training course to illustrate the\u00a0principles of Forecast Based Finance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
