Why share your photos? With 10% of the moralities in UB conservatively estimated to be resultant from air pollution, residents in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia are currently experiencing nothing less than a full-blown health crisis. We need to be illustrating to the world and reminding ourselves just how serious this problem is. Yet, part of the struggle against a continual and quietly lethal problem like air pollution – as opposed to a more sudden, yet equally lethal crisis – is battling the sense of complacency we can all find ourselves in, living in UB, day in and day out. Pictures can be an effective way to jar ourselves out of that complacency.

Have any pictures of UB Air pollution? Please share! UBAirPollution.org now – thanks to the input of UB resident John Stampfl – has a photo gallery, where pictures illustrating the problem of UB air pollution can be uploaded. Additionally, all of the photos uploaded by 1 Jan 2012, will be featured in a photo blog entry that I will be post sometime in January.

To upload photos: you can (1) send the pictures (with date, location, and other pertinent information for a caption) to me at christa.hasenkopf<at>colorado<dot>edu or (2) upload the photo yourself at UBAirPollution.org (NOTE: If you don’t already have an account, you will have to email me to get one; the wiki was originally set up for open account creation, but there were some spam issues).

Looking forward to your photos, and thanks already to John Stampfl, George Economides, and Joe Flasher for already sharing photos!
