Although located 1,500 miles from the ocean, oceans have a profound effect on the interior U.S. The COSEE West Colorado Collaborative focuses on professional development of science teachers to increase their understanding of the links between the oceans and our climate. A teacher exchange program between the University of Colorado and COSEE West gives teachers first-hand knowledge of the local importance of the oceans and climate connection. Collaborations between inland and coastal classrooms will broaden student knowledge.
Five Colorado teachers are attending the Ocean Observing Systems Institute in early August. They will be traveling to a different location each day and will chronicle their learnings. The teachers will be developing lesson plans that incorporate ocean observation data into their classroom and will be made available. Read more about the authors »
